Let me explain
Daggit here, once again. (For those of you wondering who I am and why Jack isn't updating his blog personally, catch up here.) If you're looking for new blog updates, there's been a few lately so take your pick here.
The original title for this post was going to be, "The Tales from the Gas Station Television Series," but I realized it might disappoint people who clicked on it expecting me to announce a Tales from the Gas Station television series. To be clear, there is not a Tales from the Gas Station television series in the works (yet, anyway).
So, why am I even talking about a Tales from the Gas Station TV series? Well, because that's what Jack was writing about in one of his journal entries (which I'll get to in just a second).
I'm curious, though. Would anyone out there even want to see a TV series based on Tales from the Gas Station? I mean, it's not like internet-based horror content creators have been over-performing at the box office lately, indicating a strong market demand for something like this. Maybe if there were some kind of small town horror-comedy series that won a bunch of prestigious awards recently, then producers would feel more confident in taking a risk on a property like Tales from the Gas Station. But alas, there wasn't, there isn't, and there probably never will be.
Personally, I would advise Jack to steer clear of the whole industry altogether. I got burned once when a major studio completely ripped off the script I wrote for the Five Second Film Festival and shamelessly turned it into a multi-billion dollar movie franchise. The lawsuit is still ongoing, even though it's stalled until I can find a judge who understands what "frivolous" actually means. Until then, I can't say who it is I'm suing, but you can probably guess if you read my script right here.
Anyway, enough about me. This is the journal entry attached to some of the image files Jack dropped, complete with the links he asked me to include.
Enjoy, I guess.

The Tales from the Gas Station Television Series
The idea of a show is something I think about a lot.
I've gone to great lengths to protect the film and television rights of the IP. And every year around this time, I start receiving messages from studios and agents asking if I'm interested in adapting my universe to another medium. Usually, if the messages seem legitimate, I respond in the affirmative. And most of the time, that's the end of our correspondence.
Without going into too much detail, I will say that there have been a few attempts at getting an adaptation off the ground, but so far nothing concrete has come of it. My philosophy on the topic is this: If/When the right opportunity comes along, I am ready and happy to seize upon it. However, I'm not willing to compromise the quality of the work just to get a show made (I owe that much to all of you who've been part of this journey). Rest assured, I will only ever let a show happen if I'm confident that it would be something I'm proud of.
At one point some years ago, I was in talks with a couple of production companies about selling the show to a streaming service. We had a bunch of meetings to discuss what the potential series would look like. Would it be episodic, serial, or hybrid? Half-hour or full-hour? Live action or animated? Would it be a straight adaptation of the books, or something completely different? Over the course of our talks, I floated a few ideas for what a multi-season arc could look like. And, even though they STRONGLY insisted that I do not write the pilot episode, I totally wrote a script for a pilot episode. (Actually, I wrote about ten different scripts for a pilot episode.)
While that particular attempt never got very far, it did give me something to think about. A television show in the Tales universe would have given me a lot of freedom to explore other stories that were always in my mind but never quite made it to the page. The whole town is full of characters with their own lives and secrets, and I really wanted to share some of those other ideas with you. I hope that, one day, we'll get to see all of this play out on the screen, but until then, there is another way to share a small snippet of these peripheral stories.
I recently partnered up with the amazingly talented Clockwork Reapers to create a preview of one of those side stories--specifically, the introduction of Deputy Amelia O'Brien.
If this is something you want to see more of, show CW some love. Leave CW a tip here.

To Be Continued TOMORROW...
