So, I think we can safely assume that Jack likes to read... and if we found him and the Gas Station Tales odds are good that we like to read too...
so, since the world is burning (figuratively and literally) and the only solace some of us may find is in a good (or bad) book and in a dick shaped cookie, please share with me your favourite author(s) and book(s),(aside from Jack, of course!), so that we can all find inspiration for our next read!
here are mine, if anybody cares at all!
author: Terry Pratchett
book: Good Omens
I really loved Good Omens! I was pleasantly surprised by the television show, too..
If you're looking for something lighthearted but quirky, one of my all-time favorite books is "The Princess Bride" by William Goldman.
@Jack Townsend i waited for the tv show for years, and when Pratchett died i gave up just to be taken by surprise by Neil Gaiman’s announcement. From then on i switched fom dread to expectation, back and forth until the day of the release. I really couldn’t expect more. Iloved it.
thanks for the suggestion! Actually this book has been on my “to read list” for a year now. I’m reading the last book from a thriller author, Carol O’Connell, “In blind sight” and then I will definitely read athe Princess Bride!
Are all the books you mention in the blog and the volumes real? If that’s so, I need to know some of the titles. Especially of the one with zombie penguins or something XD
I'm a sucker for some Stephen King personally, I'm currently reading his new book "The Outsider". One of my all time favorites by him though is "Under The Dome". It's a super long read but it's totally worth it. It really makes you think about the almost comical randomness in the universe and how different people respond to it in their day to day lives. 10/10 recommend.
@BlueRoses03 I read both IT and The Shining and I appreciated the second way more than the first. I wanted to give Doctor Sleep a shot... would you recommend it? And sooner rather than later I would like yo start to read the Dark Tower series, but first I have to get them all in english 😩
I LOVED Good Omens, I'm currently strugglebussing my way through House of Leaves- has anyone here read Lovecraft?
@CeeCee I have a couple of big books that collect a vast number of Lovecraft works, all of them translated in Italian. I started to read them a couple of times but it’s always a long read. Maybe it’s the Italian translation, but even if I find all the stories very interesting, there are times I keep reading the same few lines without registering them. So good luck with your reading and if you feel you are enjoying yourself, stay strong and keep working on it! No matter how much time it will take you, it will be time well spent!
I love this idea! I would suggest The Spaceship Next Door and the sequel, The Frequency of Aliens by Gene Douchette and the Fred the Vampire series by Drew Hayes
@kmmgemini I absolutely will look up all the titles you mentioned! Looks like you like sci-fi? have you ever read anything by Philip K. Dick? I would suggest you to try out “Dr Bloodmoney or how we got along after the bomb”.
or maybe “Martians, go home” and “What mad universe” by Fredric Brown.
@Butler Thank you! I have definitely gravitated more towards sci-fi in recent years. And I’ve always heard good things about Philip K Dick, but wasn’t sure where to start. Thank you for the suggestions! :)
Wow, am I ever late to the party heh. I personally recommend "Will Save the Galaxy for Food" by Yahtzee Croshaw. Similar vibe as our favorite Gasstation but IN SPAAACE!
Here's some fun SciFi recs:
Have Space Suit—Will Travel
Novel by Robert A. Heinlein
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet
Novel by Becky Chambers
And a fantasy one for good measure:
The Dresden Files
Series by Jim Butcher
