I think that there are time portals hidden in these stories. In the first book, Jack talked about half a pig breaking into the gas station. In Finding Vanessa, which took place after the first volume of Tales From the Gas Station, Vanessa's uncle borrowed a tracking pig which ended up vaporizing. Her uncle ended up with the back half of the pig while Jack ended up with the front half.
