the whole book series has been centered around Jack, and how he has a fatal disease. it was brought up by Carlos in the first book that Jack doesn't have insomnia, but he rejected the idea and it was never brought back up again until volume 3. Dr. V could have been replaced and lying about Jack not having insomnia but what if he came there with good intentions. But it doesn't explain how Jack doesn't go unconscious like when he was being transported to the hospital and was given a drug to knock him out. also not to mention the twilight anesthesia that he took. also the ending of volume 3 Jack awakens at his counter. is this what Jack does when he loses time? he could just be sleepwalking with his eyes open like Dr. V suggested. I'm legitimately wondering what is going on here and hopefully I can get some answers in volume 4.
